Associate Pianist, THE ROYAL BALLET

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Royal Ballet and Opera is offering an opportunity for an aspiring pianist to join its Associate Pianist Programme for the 2026–2027 ballet season.

This 10-month fixed-term role provides hands-on experience working within one of the world’s leading ballet companies. The successful candidate will gain training and mentorship from the Music Department while developing the specialist skills required to play for professional ballet classes and rehearsals. Reporting to the Head of Music, the Associate Pianist will initially take part in coaching sessions before gradually progressing to playing for company classes, rehearsals and other Royal Ballet activities throughout the season.

What You’ll Do

  • Work alongside the Royal Ballet Music Department to develop professional ballet accompaniment skills

  • Play piano for ballet classes and rehearsals as part of the company’s schedule

  • Study and prepare Royal Ballet repertoire to support rehearsals and performances

  • Participate in coaching sessions with senior members of the Music Department

  • Collaborate closely with dancers, choreographers and rehearsal staff

  • Develop an understanding of the relationship between music and dance within a professional ballet environment

  • Build industry knowledge and professional networks within the performing arts sector

  • Candidates with some experience playing for ballet classes or rehearsals, or the ability to demonstrate this in audition

  • Experience accompanying professional dance classes or rehearsals
