Curator of Dance, V&A MUSEUM OF CHILDHOOD
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Victoria and Albert Museum is seeking a Curator of Dance to join the team responsible for the care, research and interpretation of the Theatre and Performance Collections.
Working within the Department of Performance, Furniture, Textiles and Fashion, this role focuses on developing and sharing knowledge of dance through one of the world’s most significant performing arts collections. The successful candidate will contribute to research, exhibitions and public engagement while helping to preserve and interpret historic and contemporary dance materials. The position is offered on a permanent, part-time basis (0.8 FTE).
What You’ll Do
Support the care, research and interpretation of the Theatre and Performance Collections
Develop curatorial expertise across the history of dance, with a focus on contemporary practice and UK dance heritage
Work with internationally significant collections including Ballets Russes materials and historic ballet costume holdings
Contribute to exhibitions, displays, publications and public programming related to dance and performance
Represent the museum through research, partnerships and professional engagement nationally and internationally
Collaborate with colleagues across the Department of Performance, Furniture, Textiles and Fashion
Support wider departmental work including policy development, fundraising initiatives and knowledge sharing
Who This Is For
Curators or researchers with a strong interest in contemporary dance and the history of dance in the UK
Professionals with experience working with archives, collections or cultural heritage materials
Candidates with strong research skills and the ability to interpret and communicate cultural history to diverse audiences
Individuals comfortable representing a major cultural institution within academic, museum or arts networks
Bonus If You Have
Knowledge of Ballets Russes history and ballet costume collections
Experience curating exhibitions or contributing to museum programming
Experience working with large cultural collections or performing arts archives
