PRODUCER, SCRUM THEATRE
Organisation: SCRUM Theatre
Position: Freelance producer
Closing date for applications: 08/02/2024
Start Date: 05/03/2024.
Salary: Initial 3-month contract: £5737.50 (36 days, £150/day + £112.50 monthly 'responsibility bonus’)
*All SCRUM staff are paid the same day rate of £150p/d. Certain roles involve taking responsibility for the charity's KPIs, therefore to reflect the higher level of labour involved, those roles receive a fixed ‘responsibility bonus’ at the end of each month. ABOUT THE COMPANY
SCRUM Theatre is seeking a zappy, entrepreneurial and creative producer who’s looking for a challenging role with the opportunity for growth into a long-term position, and eventually executive responsibilities, within our brand-new organisation.
This position requires a dedicated and ambitious individual with a strong background in project management, as well as someone with a passion for collaborative processes and a principled commitment to labour ethics.
In this role, you’ll be collaborating with our collective of makers to help transform an empty commercial space in the heart of London into a hub for performances, training and education projects for under-served communities.
A little bit about SCRUM Theatre… We’re a one-year-old CIO committed to making theatre more equitable and accessible for the next generation of makers and audiences, by prioritising the conditions for artists to make their best work. We’re championed by leading UK theatre-makers, including Adrian Lester, Nick Hytner, Lyndsey Turner, and Declan Donnellan. We operate as a democratic collective, where the Company Artists work collaboratively in order to deliver projects. As the Producer, you will take your mandate from the company’s decisions, and then lead the execution of the voted-upon strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In an initial 3-month contract, the Producer will deliver projects integral to the launch of our production tour in late 2024. You will:
Plan, coordinate, and execute a paid week of R&D towards the Company's 2024 touring production
Plan, coordinate, and execute a fundraiser event
Create a strategy document for the delivery of the Twelfth Night tour in late 2024, including timelines, budgets, and projected income streams
Form relationships with the whole collective, and most especially the Co-Leads and Board of Trustees.
Following the end of the 3-month contract, the Company Artists and Board of Trustees will review the success of the Producer’s projects, and the Producer will give feedback to the Company and Board about their experience in the role, constructive criticisms of the organisation, and plans for how to shape the role in future.
Should the Producer, Board, and Company Artists all agree, an extended contract will be offered and the position will transition into the role of a long-term Company Producer, whose responsibilities will be to:
Be responsible for the financial oversight and health of the company and charity
Be responsible for the business strategy of the company of the charity
Build a strong relationship with ACE and other funding bodies
Build and maintain relationships with touring partners in ACE and DCMS Priority Places and Levelling Up for Culture Places
Ensure that the charity’s two core education programmes have grown and are servicing beneficiaries according to SCRUM’s vision and charitable objects
Improve SCRUM’s income stream in 2024 and beyond
Play an active role in introducing SCRUM Theatre as a vital new voice in UK theatre
After an additional nine months, SCRUM Theatre plans to develop the Company Producer into an executive role within the charity.
